This post has been long overdue. LOL.
Congratulations, Phillip Phillips! Well-deserved!
Watching the show in tears...Hehe.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Jessica Sanchez is an outstanding singer with a powerful, soulful voice and a well-mannered young lady.
BUT…
In our household, Phillip Phillips is our American Idol in all aspects and we were rooting for him to get the crown — and he did! 
I haven’t watched the previous seasons of the show so I can’t compare Phillip with the past winners. But nonetheless, the reason why we think he deserved the title more were as follows:
His ability to connect with the audience stands out from all the rest. In this kind of competition, audience impact is everything. And that explains why he was never a bottom performer.
His originality. Everytime we watch him perform on stage, we get hooked into his music! We totally felt like we’re watching his own concert, not a talent show! He sings every song as if it was his own and makes an even better rendition compared to the original. And those weird facial expressions and hand gestures? It’s craaaaazy! 
Add-on talent: Guitar. Aside from an awesome voice quality that we love listening to, he plays the guitar and arranges his song that is perfect fit for who he is. Not for who other people expect him to be. And for me, he is one fearless artist! While everyone else tries to sing and perform like someone else, Phillip Phillips sings just the way he does which is amazing!
Charisma. He is a modern-day crooner kind of performer and undeniably gorgeous. If you’re a concert producer, drawing a crowd to his concert would probably be effortless. There’s no doubt that all the American Idol finalists can sing and have proven their worth, but not everyone is gifted with charisma.
Music genre. We prefer his kind of music over Jessica’s. Again, it’s pointless to compare their voice because they obviously come from two different worlds. So you decide which one you prefer listening to.
I know most Pinoys were so disappointed with the results. But hey, let us not forget that it is America’s choice that stands and it’s their show. Phillip Phillips won not because they think he is a much better singer than Jessica Sanchez, but because that’s how America wants an American Idol to portray. Apparently, it’s not about who screams, growls or belts the most who wins the title.
At this point, it’s all about overall impact and who fits the winners’ mold.
